Airbnb vs Black Tomato

Airbnb

The closer you look, the clearer it gets Canada needs to take meaningful action to bring housing costs down, but experts agree that restricting short-term rentals will not solve this crisis. Take a closer look at the numbers: Canada needs 5.8 million new homes by 2030 to achieve housing affordability, yet short-term rentals make up just 0.6% of the country's existing housing stock. Further restricting short-term rentals would amount to little more than a drop in the bucket in meeting Canada's housing supply needs. Canada must prioritize reversing decades of under-investment in housing to meaningfully address this crisis. It's critical that governments remain laser-focused on real solutions to unlock new housing construction. At a time of record-high cost of living, short-term rentals are helping people earn essential income and make ends meet. They're also an essential part of our thriving tourism sector and supporting small businesses across the country.
